Lewis returns from medical absence, will coach Bengals' preseason opener

Marvin Lewis is back at work with the Cincinnati Bengals just one day after being forced to take a medical absence.

In a statement released by the team Wednesday, the veteran head coach confirmed he has made his return to the team facilities and will coach in Friday's preseason opener.

"I was able to return to work last night after receiving great medical care," Lewis said. "I especially want to thank all of the doctors, nurses and technicians who treated me. I am glad to be back with the team as we prepare to play the Buccaneers on Friday."

Lewis first stepped away from the team Tuesday with what the team called a "minor health issue." No further details were provided, but a team source later told NFL Network's Stacey Dales that he was dealing with a cyst in his knee.

Friday's matchup with the Buccaneers is the first of two home games to kick off Cincinnati's four-game preseason slate.
