Cowboys VP Jones chides NFL for inefficient Elliott investigation

The NFL has been investigating domestic violence claims aimed at Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for over a year and vice president Stephen Jones isn't happy with the pace of its work.

With weekly reports surfacing about when Elliott will or will not be suspended and for how long, Jones believes there is no reason the league cannot announce a decision by now.

"These things are tough for everybody. It's tough for the league. It's tough for the team. It's tough for the player," said Jones, according to ESPN. "At some point, you should be able to get the information in some sort of time frame that ... doesn't carry on like this particular investigation has."

Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that the league has yet to make a decision about suspending the star runner, denying a claim by Hall of Famer Cris Carter that Elliott would be handed a lengthy ban within the next two days.

"I would hope as a league, just like we do everything else, we look for ways to get more efficient and to do things in a better way," Stephen Jones said. "I'm not being critical. We're obviously in new territory when we started our own investigative team at the NFL level.

"Just like we do everything, we look for ways to improve it. Hopefully we'll be better at this when we move forward in the future."
