Belichick reveals advice from father: 'The team is bigger than you'

It appears that the ethos of the New England Patriots stems from Bill Belichick's father, Steve.

The elder Belichick briefly played for the Detroit Lions and spent three decades working as a scout for Navy.

Steve imparted Bill with the philosophy that has come to define the Patriots this decade, a fact that the legendary head coach revealed Sunday.

"Keep your head down, work hard, keep your mouth shut. Actions speak louder than words. That's basically what he did. Do what you can to help the team. The team is bigger than you," Bill told ESPN's Mike Reiss.

This sounds all too familiar as the Patriots have popularized the phrase "Do Your Job" en route to capturing two Super Bowls in three seasons.
