Report: Browns cut Brock Osweiler
The Brock Osweiler era appears to be over in Cleveland.
Cleveland cut the much-maligned quarterback Friday after acquiring him in an offseason trade from the Houston Texans, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Osweiler signed a massive deal with the Texans prior to the 2016 campaign, but failed to live up to expectations in Houston. The 26-year-old was inconsistent and tossed only 15 touchdowns compared to 16 interceptions.
There were some whispers that Osweiler had a shot to earn the Week 1 starting spot for the rebuilding Browns, but head coach Hue Jackson ended any hope of that this week when he declared rookie DeShone Kizer the starter.
Osweiler's departure leaves the Browns very inexperienced at the position, as the only other quarterbacks currently on the roster behind Kizer are Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan.
