Running back Matt Jones has not attended the Washington Redskins' OTAs and he doesn't plan on doing so. Unhappy with his place among the team's stable of running backs, Jones is staying away and hoping the Redskins will trade or release him, ESPN's John Keim reports.
Jones started the first seven games of last season and posted 460 yards and three touchdowns. He was a healthy scratch for the final eight contests of the year, however.
The Redskins have tabbed Rob Kelley as the favorite to start at running back in 2017, while Chris Thompson figures to remain a third-down specialist, and the team drafted Samaje Perine in the fourth round of this year's draft.
Jones' slide down the depth chart was a precipitous one. The Redskins still expect the two-year pro to show up to minicamp next month, however.
"He better," head coach Jay Gruden said.
