The Dallas Cowboys restructured Tyron Smith's and Travis Frederick's contracts, saving $17.3 million for the 2017 season, the team announced Monday.
As a result, the Cowboys are now under the prospective salary cap of $168 million for the upcoming season. The cap will be finalized when the new league year begins on March 9.
Smith was slated to earn $10 million, while Frederick was scheduled to make $14.2 million for the 2017 season.
Both Smith and Frederick were named first-team All-Pros in 2016, anchoring the NFL's best offensive line. Smith signed a lucrative eight-year, $109-million extension in July 2014 and remains among the highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL.
Ahead of free agency, Dallas now sports increased flexibility in trying to improve its roster.
