Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack was named the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year at Saturday night's NFL Honors show.
Mack beat out Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller by one vote to win the award, collecting a total of 18 votes from the 50-person panel, according to the Associated Press.
New York Giants safety Landon Collins, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee, and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner also received consideration for the award.
The Raiders edge-rusher finished the season with 73 tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, three pass deflections, and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. The 25-year-old started the season slowly, but went on an eight-game sack streak in the middle of the season that vaulted him atop the field of contenders.
Mack is the first Raiders player to win the honor since Lester Hayes in 1980.
