Report: Broncos open to acquiring Romo if he becomes free agent
While the Denver Broncos have reportedly dismissed the idea of trading for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, they have not shut the door to potentially acquiring the veteran field general, a source told Mike Klis of 9News.
If the Cowboys release Romo to the free-agent market, the Broncos would be open to signing the 36-year-old to their roster, reports Klis, citing a source within the team's football department.
However, that's a big if.
Romo has three years remaining on his deal with the Cowboys that would dock the team $19.6 million in cap room next season if he was released. The Cowboys are already set to have negative cap room when the 2017 official year begins (according to spotrac.com), so trading Romo would be highly preferable.
Broncos general manager John Elway has been adamant that the team is satisfied with their current quarterbacks - Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian.
