Fuller (knee) has had struggles adjusting to playing man-to-man defense, and he's battling to keep his starting job, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis:
Fuller was drafted with the 14th overall pick in the 2014 draft by former general Jerry Angelo with the expectation that he'd primarily play in a zone defense. However, since Vic Fangio took over the defense, the cornerbacks are expected to play man-to-man, which has been a struggle for the third-year veteran. His struggles led to him being benched late in the game during a September loss last year, and Fuller said that he needs to have more confidence, which he feels will lead to increased production. With the current coaching staff having drafted four cornerbacks since taking over in 2015, they have no allegiance to Fuller, so he'll need to earn his spot this preseason.
