Redskins release Andre Roberts

The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Andre Roberts, the team announced Tuesday.

With the first-round selection of Josh Doctson adding yet another talented pass catcher to the mix, Roberts was always thought to be a potential cut candidate ahead of training camp.

Management opted to make the move official in advance of next week's organized team activities, saving a much-needed $3 million against the cap in the process.

Washington now heads into the season with Doctson, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, and Jamison Crowder rounding out a strong group of receivers.

Roberts, a six-year veteran with 39 career starts, immediately hits the open market and is free to sign with another team.
