The New York Jets have selected punter Lachlan Edwards out of Sam Houston State in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 235th overall.

Edwards is the latest in a growing line of Australian punters to make the leap from college to the professional ranks. He excelled in rugby, cricket, track and field, and Aussie Rules football in his native country.

With no punter currently on the Jets roster, Edwards stands a good chance of making the opening day lineup, and would join New York Giants punter Brad Wing in an Australian takeover of the Big Apple.
