Faber: McGregor beating Aldo good for the sport

Coaching opposite Conor McGregor on the latest season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Urijah Faber has learned to respect - and maybe even like - the impossibly brash Irishman.

As such, Faber isn't blinded by the seething hatred many fellow UFC combatants feel for McGregor, going so far as to admit that a McGregor triumph against Jose Aldo at UFC 194 would be an ideal outcome for the sport.

"Conor winning is f--king good for the sport," Faber told MMAjunkie Radio.

From a monetary standpoint, it's hard to argue. McGregor is quickly becoming a box office star, parlaying his pro wrestling-esque ability on the mic and exciting style into gobs of cash for the UFC.

"People f--king love that guy, so I think the big money fights would be with him as champion," Faber said. "So (a McGregor win) makes a lot of sense. But I really like Jose Aldo. It's kind of a win-win for me."

Not only will a McGregor victory translate into box office dollars, but it'll open up a division that Aldo has violently reigned over with an iron fist ever since it was moved over from the WEC in 2011.

"Who's the easier fight for some of my guys? I've gotta say Conor is," Faber said. "Aldo's really, really well-versed with takedown defense. You saw Chad (Mendes) was able to take down Conor at will. So having Conor win is a good thing for the wrestlers in the division and the sport in general. And Jose Aldo is a legend."
