San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer knows who his captain will be.

After the Sharks' 5-1 preseason loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night, DeBoer said he has chosen the Sharks' next captain but won't make the announcement until Monday or Tuesday, according to Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News.

The coach said last week that he wasn't planning to wait until the morning of the season opener against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday to make the revelation.

Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic have all worn the "A" as assistant captains in the preseason.

DeBoer was hired as Sharks head coach in May, replacing Todd McLellan, who eventually landed with the Edmonton Oilers.

San Jose went without a captain last season after McLellan and general manager Doug Wilson stripped the "C" from Thornton, who held the responsibility from 2010 to 2014.
