The Washington Redskins signed tight ends D.J. Williams and Ernst Brun Jr. while placing tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen on injured reserve Saturday.

Williams previously played for the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The journeyman last saw the field as the member of the Jaguars.

The 26-year-old captured the John Mackey Award in 2010, presented to the NCAA's best tight end.

Brun played his collegiate football at Iowa State, but went undrafted in 2013.

"We're looking for somebody who can block," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said of Brun to The Washington Post's Mike Jones. "There are so many tight ends that can do one or the other, but we're trying to find somebody who can do both, and we (are) hoping he has the traits to do both."

With the Redskins' tight end depth decimated by injuries, Brun will have an opportunity to compete for the starting role.
