Flames, Paul Byron avoid arbitration, settle on 1-year deal worth reported $900K

The NHL arbitrator's load is a little lighter.

The Calgary Flames and forward Paul Byron have agreed to a one-year deal, thereby avoiding a hearing, the club announced Sunday.

The contract is worth $900,000, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Byron, 26, scored six goals and added 13 assists this past season, while earning a salary of $600,000. He can become an unrestricted free agent at the expiration of this new deal.

A wrist injury limited Byron to 57 games in 2014-15, but he told Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun that he will have the pin removed from his wrist in the first week of September.

Byron hopes to be ready for the start of training camp.
