Mets' Gee on move to bullpen: 'I just don't even care anymore'

To say Dillon Gee is upset with his reassignment would be an understatement.

Upon his return from the disabled list from a mild groin injury, New York Mets manager Terry Collins welcomed back his righty by moving him to the bullpen.

The decision to pull Gee out of the starting rotation comes a day after Collins elected to nix the six-man rotation idea.

"I'm almost at the point now where I just don't even care anymore," Gee said. "I'm kind of over it all. I'll do the best I can out of the pen right now."

As it stands, the current starting rotation of Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, and Noah Syndergaard will stay as is. The goal of the six-man rotation was to ease the workload of the young arms of Syndergaard and deGrom, while giving Harvey some extra rest.

But Collins said Saturday he believes the club will remain within its means to keep its pitchers from logging too many innings. Yet in the midst of figuring out his rotation, Collins has left Gee in limbo.

"I felt like any value - if I had any at all - before this, it's probably gone," said Gee, who has only come out of the bullpen three times in his six-year career. "What am I going to do out of the pen? I felt like there's really not a whole lot of good that comes from it."

In his meeting with his righty Saturday, Collins went out of his way to apologize for making him start in a rehab game even though he wasn't going to start with the big club. He also showed remorse for the inconsistent treatment of his pitcher all season long.

Either way, it doesn't make a difference for Gee, as he'll accept his role on the chin, mainly because he doesn't have much of a choice.

"There's nothing I can do. Obviously, I'm going to do the best I can," he said. "My biggest concern is that if there was any glimmer of value before this, I don't see how there would be anymore when I get moved to the pen - the value trade-wise or value to the team.

"I'm definitely unproven in the pen. You don't know what you're going to get, but you know what you're going to get out of the guys that are already there."
