The Detroit Pistons selected Villanova shooting guard Darrun Hilliard II with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
The Pistons landed a shooter, albeit one with limited upside. Hilliard knocked down 38.7 percent of his threes and shot nearly 80 percent from the line, portending marksmanship at the NBA level, but it's unclear what else he can contribute.
He was a solid defender in college and had a nose for steals, and with a 6-foot-9 wingspan he may able to guard both wing positions capably. He'll work hard at that end, at least, potentially making up for middling athleticism. Offensively, he can do a little bit of everything, but shooting is the only skill he possesses that's even close to elite.
