Jets place Wheeler on IR

Winnipeg Jets placed forward Blake Wheeler on injured reserve Wednesday, the club announced.

Wheeler missed Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Dallas Stars with a reported lower-body injury.

The move came after the team acquired forward Jiri Tlusty from the Carolina Hurricanes for a sixth-round draft pick in 2015 and a third-round selection in 2016.

The IR designation is presumably retroactive to Tuesday because he did not play, meaning he would be eligible to return on March 3.

Wheeler has 16 goals and 28 assists in 61 games.
