Bruins' Lucic fined $5,000 for spear: 'I think I've only done that three times'
While the Boston Bruins dropped the first game of their first-round series against the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 on Friday, forward Milan Lucic ended up being the biggest story of the night.
Lucic speared Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser in the dying seconds of the second period and was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Saturday morning.
When asked about the incident by reporters, Lucic did a quick count of similar incidents in his head. Yes, he remembers these things.
"I think I've only done that three times," he said, adding: "I believe in playing within the rules. For me, I definitely won’t be heading down that road again."
While he maintains it's something that won't happen again, he told The Boston Globe: "It’s just funny — I never do that, I haven’t done that, but unfortunately I've done it twice in the last little bit here."
DeKeyser is probably hoping Lucic ends the spearing count at three.
