Jim Molinari has resigned as head coach prior to his seventh season at the helm of Western Illinois' basketball program.

Athletics director Tommy Bell confirmed Molinari's resignation, releasing a statement on the school's official athletics website.

"Having known Coach Molinari for more than 20 years and watched his incredible basketball career and accomplishments he had at Western Illinois University, we wish him continued success and the best of luck," Bell stated

"We thank him for his service to our institution. He will be missed."

Molinari joined Western Illinois in 2008, and guided the Leathernecks to their first-ever Division I postseason appearance after earning a spot in the 2012 College Basketball Invitational.

The 59-year-old compiled an overall record of 79-104 during his six-year tenure with the Leathernecks.
