Report: Coyotes offered Yandle to the Flyers for Van Riemsdyk in 2012
Before the Philadelphia Flyers traded gifted scorer James Van Riemsdyk to the Toronto Maple Leafs for struggling defenseman Luke Schenn, there was another offer on the table.
Tim Panaccio of CSN wrote the Phoenix Coyotes offered the Flyers one of the best defenseman in the NHL in Keith Yandle, but they turned down the deal. The offer was made to them before the Maple Leafs had offered up Luke Schenn.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren turned down the deal opting to send off James Van Riemsdyk to Toronto in exchange for Luke Schenn. Since the June 2012 trade, this is how both defenseman compare.
Player | Goals | Assists | plus/minus | PIM | Games Played |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Keith Yande | 16 | 42 | -1 | 87 | 89 |
Luke Schenn | 6 | 10 | -2 | 61 | 86 |
It's safe to say the Coyotes lucked out by Holmgren not realizing what a great defenseman Yandle was at the time.
