Canada, USA unveil generic women's World Championship jerseys amid rights dispute

Canada and the United States revealed the generic jerseys they'll wear at the upcoming women's World Championship as the two countries negotiate a commercial rights dispute with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The jerseys are manufactured by True Hockey, which announced an agreement with the IIHF to supply jerseys for all membership associations last year. Hockey Canada has an agreement with Bauer for official replica jerseys, while USA Hockey partners with CCM.

It's not clear if True Hockey's agreement was ever signed or finalized, and the national hockey federations believe they still control the commercial rights to sell jerseys, according to The Athletic's Chris Johnston. While the dispute is ongoing, True Hockey cannot use the official designs or logos of Canada or the United States.

Both countries open their tournaments Friday. Canada starts with a matchup against Sweden, while the United States will meet Switzerland. The North American powerhouses won't face each other during round-robin play.

No country other than Canada or the USA has ever won the event. The United States captured gold over Canada in overtime last year and did the same at the Olympics in February.
