Appleton (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Red Wings on Tuesday, per the NHL media site.
Analysis:The Red Wings announced Tuesday that Appleton is week-to-week due to an unspecified injury, so it isn't particularly surprising to see him land on injured reserve. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but Carter Mazur is a candidate to see increased time in the lineup during Appleton's absence.
