Sheppard completed 9 of 14 passes for 92 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 17-13 victory over South Florida. He also had 14 rushes for 87 yards with one touchdown.
Analysis:Sheppard earned his second start of the season under center for the Owls, putting together a solid performance to pick up his first career win as a starter. Jaxon Smolik (foot) dressed for the game but wasn't utilized as Sheppard controlled the offense throughout the contest. Sheppard delivered the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard run to put the team ahead, marking his third rushing score of the season. Smolik's status remains worth monitoring, but with Sheppard playing well, he is most likely to start under center once again in Week 6 against UConn.
