Pittsburgh's Holden Geriner: Named starting quarterback

Rotowire• ·

Geriner has been named Pittsburgh's quarterback for Week 6 against North Carolina, according to the team's announcement Monday.

Analysis:

Mason Heintschel tore his ACL in Week 5 at Virginia Tech, so Geriner (initially Pittsburgh's backup quarterback) will be promoted to starter. In small doses this season, the latter showed promise as a backup, completing 19 passes on 26 attempts for not only an impressive 73.1 completion percentage but also 219 yards and two touchdowns. The question is whether Geriner can replicate that output in a more active, bigger setting with Pitt in the thick of conference play.
