Austin Smotherman: Wins Bank of Utah Championship

Rotowire• ·

Smotherman posted a three-under 68 in the final round of the Bank of Utah Championship to win the tournament with a 26-under cumulative score.

Analysis:

Smotherman did most of his work over the first two days of the tournament with rounds of 63 and 62 on Thursday and Friday, respectively. He ran into a bit of trouble in the final round with a double bogey on the par-4 13th, but he responded with three birdies over his final five holes -- including the par-5 18th -- to secure the first PGA Tour win of his career. Smotherman led the field in Utah with 32 birdies while ranking second in both GIR and SG: Off-the-Tee, as well as seventh in SG: Approach and 20th in SG: Putting. His victory moved him up to the top of the FedExCup Fall Standings, and if he can stay between 51st and 60th, he would earn an exemption into the first two Signature Events of the 2027 season. Smotherman is listed in the field for next week's Baycurrent Classic, which will be his first appearance at Yokohama Country Club.
