Gaines (upper body) did not play in Saturday's 37-18 win over Utah State.
Analysis:All signs pointed to Gaines taking the field Saturday, especially after he was seen in full uniform and warming up for the game. However, the running back ended up sitting out his second consecutive game due to an upper-body injury. On a positive note, he is taking the right steps toward a return, which appears near, considering his activity in warmups.
