Gotkowski will not be Miami (OH)'s starting quarterback to begin the 2026 season, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.
Analysis:Gotkowski, Caleb Heavner and David McComb spent the summer in a three-quarterback competition to determine Miami (OH)'s primary option under center to begin the season. The team ultimately chose McComb, a former Kansas player who recently transferred to the MAC. In order for Gotkowski to surpass his 2025 production, which saw him log 690 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns, he will have to wait for McComb to falter; and even then, Heavner would maintain steady competition against the Miami (OH) mainstay.
