Ely (elbow) was released by the Astros on Wednesday.
Ely's 2013 season was lost following Tommy John surgery in April, but he did go 14-7 with a 3.20 ERA and a 8.8 K/9 over 27 starts for the Dodgers' Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate in 2012. Once fully recovered, Ely will likely land a minor league deal elsewhere.
