Potgieter posted a three-over cumulative score at the Rocket Classic to miss the cut by six strokes.
Analysis:Potgieter entered the week looking to defend his Rocket Classic trophy, which he won in a three-man playoff against Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk last year. However, the 21-year-old South African was unable to replicate that success this time around at Detroit Golf Club, opening with a six-over 76 first round with a triple bogey, two doubles, two bogeys and three birdies. Potgieter lost 4.03 strokes in his approach play, 3.00 of which were lost in the first round alone. He's missed 10 cuts in 19 tournaments this season, but his solo fifth at The Genesis Invitational is a big reason why he's in the top-70 of the FedExCup Standings, though that could change following the conclusion of the Rocket Classic. Only the top-70 in the standings make the playoffs, so he could be fighting for a spot in the postseason next week at the Wyndham Championship.
