The Mets designated Oliva for assignment Thursday.
Analysis:
Oliva was a waiver claim of the Mets in late June and the outfielder will now go through the waivers process again. His spot on the 40-man roster is being absorbed by right-hander Dan Hammer, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse.
