J.T. Poston: Wins the Memorial Tournament

Rotowire ·

Poston beat Ryan Gerard on the second playoff hole to win the Memorial Tournament.

Analysis:

The Muirfield course proved to be a difficult one to navigate for the majority of the field, but Poston surged to the top of the leaderboard with a seven-under 65 in the second round that included six birdies on the front nine. He entered Sunday with a three-stroke lead, but he fell behind by one stroke after going three-over through 13 holes. Poston rebounded with back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 and forced a playoff with another birdie on the par-4 18th. His 11-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole missed to the right of the cup, but he was able to close things out on the second go with a par to Gerard's bogey to secure the fourth PGA Tour win of Poston's career and first since the 2024 Shriners Children's Open. Poston is currently listed in the field for the RBC Canadian Open next week, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him stay south of the border and prepare for the U.S. Open Championship, where he finished T33 in 2025 when the major was hosted at Oakmont.
