Ross Steelman: Falls short on playoff hole

Rotowire3 days ago

Steelman finished as the runner-up at the UNC Health Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour after losing to Alvaro Ortiz on the first playoff hole.

Analysis:

Steelman did well to make it to the top of the leaderboard after his three-under back nine resulted in a four-under 66 score for the final round, but Ortiz forced a playoff after back-to-back birdies on the final two holes. Ortiz proceeded to birdie the first playoff hole, but Steelman's three-putt led to a bogey and a runner-up finish. It was a disappointing finish for the American, but it was his best finish in 64 career Korn Ferry Tour events and his first top-5 performance since his T5 at The Ascendant in July of 2025. Steelman led the field in Raleigh in driving distance, birdies and both SG: Off-the-Tee and Putting, gaining a whopping 10.79 strokes on the green, though he lost 4.04 strokes in his approach play (67th out of 69 players who made the cut). He's in the field for the BMW Charity Pro-Am next week.
