Martinez Novell to leave Toulouse at end of season
Toulouse coach Carles Martinez Novell will step down at the end of the season after three years in charge, the Ligue 1 club announced Wednesday.
The Spaniard replaced the hugely successful Philippe Montanier in 2023 and has since kept Toulouse in the French top flight, but will not sign a contract extension.
"After three wonderful years at Toulouse Football Club, we have decided to part ways at the end of this season," Martinez Novell said in a statement.
"I leave with incredible memories that will stay with me forever."
Toulouse were promoted to Ligue 1 as second-tier champions under Montanier in 2022, before winning the French Cup, the first major trophy in their history, the following campaign.
Montanier was then sacked and replaced by assistant Martinez Novell.
They have since finished in midtable, although a 4-1 semi-final loss to Lens ended their hopes of another Cup triumph this term.
French daily L'Equipe reported that Martinez Novell could be set for a move to La Liga club Girona.
