X map shows NHL fans split between Stars, Hurricanes in conference finals

The Dallas Stars and Carolina Hurricanes appear to be the fan favorites in this year's NHL conference finals.

A map created by BetOnline.ag based on geotagged X data gathered since the matchups were set Sunday, including over 90,000 tweets, shows a majority of fans across the United States are rooting for either the Stars or Hurricanes to win their series.

The Stars are favored in 24 states and one Canadian province, followed closely by the Hurricanes with 23 states and one province. The Edmonton Oilers are the most popular pick in eight provinces and one state, while only one state is backing the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

The Panthers defeated the Hurricanes 5-2 on Tuesday to win Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. Game 1 of the Western Conference Final is set for Wednesday night in Dallas.
