McCaffrey seeing specialist in Germany regarding Achilles tendinitis
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey traveled to Germany to consult a specialist regarding his Achilles tendinitis, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
McCaffrey is expected to spend a few days there to get help with the injury, Shanahan added.
The 49ers placed McCaffrey on injured reserve two weeks ago. He's reportedly set to miss at least six games.
Hours before the season opener, McCaffrey was listed as inactive against the New York Jets. He was previously designated as questionable.
The 2023 Offensive Player of the Year is among many 49ers dealing with injuries. Deebo Samuel is expected to miss the Week 4 contest against the New England Patriots, and George Kittle didn't suit up on Sunday due to a hamstring ailment.
Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is out for the year after suffering a torn triceps, and quarterback Brock Purdy is day-to-day with back soreness.
Jordan Mason has stepped in for the hampered McCaffrey and totaled 324 yards and two touchdowns.
The 28-year-old McCaffrey has 2,205 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns in 27 contests since being acquired by the 49ers in 2022.
