New York Mets first baseman and impending free agent Pete Alonso is hoping to remain with the franchise beyond this season.
"I'm super happy to be a Met, super proud to be a Met," Alonso said Monday, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo. "And, again, it's just been awesome. I'd love to stay, and I don't want to get traded. I love it. It's home."
Alonso has developed into one of the best power hitters in Mets history, sitting fourth on the franchise's all-time home run list with 211 long balls. The 29-year-old made his fourth All-Star Game after hitting 19 home runs with 53 runs scored and 51 RBIs in the first half of the 2024 campaign.
The Mets turned their season around after a 24-35 start and entered the All-Star break with a 49-46 record. New York holds the third wild-card spot in the National League.
"Right now there's a lot that could happen (before the trade deadline) and whatever the front office and ownership decides to do, that's their prerogative," Alonso said. "But, for me, my job is to do whatever I can to help win ballgames every single day."
