Kampe: Louisville fans bought $8K in Oakland merch after Kentucky upset

Oakland gained a lot of new fans in Louisville with its upset of Kentucky on Thursday night.

Head coach Greg Kampe told reporters Friday that Louisville residents bought $8,000 worth of merchandise from Oakland's online store following the 14th-seeded Golden Grizzlies' 80-76 win over their in-state rivals.

"We also sold $8,000 worth of T-shirts to Louisville last night. Think about that," Kampe said. "Honest to God. They buy the T-shirts, and they put the credit card, and Louisville, Louisville, Louisville. It wasn't the same person.

"So, I don't know, next year when Louisville and Kentucky play, I don't know if everybody's gonna show up in an Oakland shirt or what. I have no idea, but it's crazy to think about what something like this does."

Oakland, which went 15-5 in Horizon League play this season, became the 23rd No. 14 seed to upset a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament since it expanded to 64 teams in 1985.

Louisville hasn't appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 2019.
