Julia Roberts felt 'kinship' with Mahomes after watching 'Quarterback'
Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts gained a newfound appreciation for Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes after seeing him in "Quarterback."
During an appearance on SiriusXM's "The Jess Cagle Show," Roberts characterized the Netflix series as life-changing.
"I watched this documentary series, 'Quarterback.' It has changed my life, I think," she said. "Because I'm a big football fan, but this has given me an insight. Like, I have so much respect right now for Patrick Mahomes, I don't know what to do with it. There's really not a place for me to put it on a daily basis."
Among the things Roberts learned from watching the series was just how much work goes into being a quarterback.
"The quarterback, you think, like, 'Oh, he shows up and throws the ball around.' I mean, that's what I thought," Roberts said. "That's wrong.
"I felt a kinship because I feel like my homework, when I'm working, it never ends. There's always some other element, some other thing to learn, to figure out, to get ready for to, you know, whatever it is, and so I kind of felt like, 'I understand you, Patrick Mahomes.'"
Roberts' favorite NFL team is the San Francisco 49ers, but she said the Chiefs are "right behind" them.
The first season of "Quarterback" premiered in July and followed Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota during their 2022 campaigns. The series' second season is set to air in 2024.
