Jake Paul may have to wait until Canelo Alvarez is retired before he gets his shot at the boxing superstar.
Alvarez responded to Paul's recent callout while appearing on "The Breakfast Club" on Tuesday, saying he would only consider fighting the YouTube star turned prizefighter in a post-retirement exhibition match.
"For me, not right now because I'm chasing other things in my career," Alvarez said. "But we never know. Maybe later."
The 33-year-old added that while he respects what Paul is doing, he wouldn't want a match between the two of them on his professional record.
"He can do whatever he wants, right? But I think it's not for real boxing, for my career to put a fight in my record with Jake Paul," Alvarez said.
Paul defeated former UFC star Nate Diaz via unanimous decision earlier in August to improve to 7-1 as a professional boxer.
Alvarez's next bout is scheduled for Sept. 30 against Jermell Charlo.
