Happy Anniversary: Recapping 1 year of action in Ontario with theScore Bet

theScore Bet

Happy anniversary to us - and to you, Ontario!

It was one year ago today - April 4, 2022 - that theScore Bet launched our mobile sportsbook and casino app in the great province of Ontario. What a year it's been!

Let's look back on the teams and players you rode with the most over our first year.

Top Players

No surprises here. The Toronto Maple Leafs dominate the sporting conversation in Ontario and lead the way on our list of the most bet-on players across all sports. Auston Matthews delivered in a big way, taking home the 2021-22 Hart Trophy over Connor McDavid after leading the NHL with 60 goals.

Four of the five most gambled-on NHL players come from the Maple Leafs. Then, there's McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers superstar is leading the NHL in points for a third straight campaign in 2022-23, and if you managed to get a futures bet of any sort on McDavid before this season you're probably a happy camper right about now.

NBA bettors leaned on Toronto Raptors players, even though the team has been up and down over the last 12 months. Our gambling community also went heavy on Luka Doncic and Kevin Durant wagers. Hopefully, bettors had more fun than Doncic has had in Dallas recently.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a monstrous 2021 season, and gamblers were ready to ride with him by the time the 2022 campaign came around. Meanwhile, nobody could have predicted that Aaron Judge would bash an AL-record 62 homers in 2022, but there's a good chance you made money if you ever took the over on one of his home run props.

The Buffalo Bills are the adopted "home team" of many Ontarians, and we see their popularity shine through here. A down year for two-time NFL rushing champion Derrick Henry may have left some bettors feeling miffed, but Travis Kelce certainly delivered with yardage and touchdown totals that rivaled the NFL's elite wideouts and left every other tight end in his dust.

Top Teams

People loved betting on the Blue Jays, especially in the summer when the other major North American sports leagues were in their offseason. Interestingly, the five most popular teams to bet on all came from baseball or hockey.

Top Sporting Events

No sporting event generates more bets around the globe than the Super Bowl, so it's fitting that Super Bowl LVII sits atop this list. The Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles game was the third-most watched Super Bowl in TV history, and you can be sure that many viewers were waiting to see if their bets hit.

Biggest Hit of the Year

Congratulations are in order for the one bettor who cashed in when Adam Svensson won the RSM Classic as a long shot in November. The Canadian went -19 in Georgia and defeated Brian Harman, Callum Tarren, and Sahith Theegala by two strokes apiece to win his first TOUR title.
