Harbaugh vows to return to Michigan amid new NFL buzz

Jim Harbaugh vowed to return to Michigan next season amid a report that NFL teams have begun doing homework on him as a head coaching candidate.

"I think the people are going to be happy to know that I'll be enthusiastically coaching the Wolverines in 2023," Harbaugh said Sunday on the Fiesta Bowl teleconference, according to Rivals' Trevor McCue.

Harbaugh, who coached in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, has been linked to various openings for several years. He interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason but said afterward that he was ready to close the door on a jump back to the NFL.

The 58-year-old has Michigan heading to the College Football Playoff for a second consecutive campaign. The Wolverines repeated as Big Ten champions after knocking off Purdue in Saturday's conference title game.

The Wolverines are 74-24 since Harbaugh, a former Michigan quarterback, took over in 2015. Harbaugh went 44-19-1 with the 49ers, taking the franchise to the playoffs three times and the Super Bowl once over four seasons.
