Leonard Fournette's meeting with the New England Patriots in free agency didn't go unnoticed by Tom Brady.
During a press conference Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back told reporters that Brady reached out to him while he was visiting the quarterback's former team.
"I was just shopping around, seeing what best fits me," Fournette said, per the Pewter Report. "When (Brady) signed back, he called me, he's like, 'Man, what's your ass doing up there, man?"
Fournette re-signed with the Bucs on a three-year, $21-million deal in March, a little over a week after Brady announced he was ending his brief retirement to return to Tampa Bay. That announcement didn't come as a surprise to Fournette.
"I kind of knew because I told him prior to, I want to say two days after the game, I'm like, T, we can't go out like that,'" he said Tuesday. "And he agreed with me. Like, we left too many mistakes on the field that kind of messed us up, and we was playing catch-up the whole game. So I think as a champion, I knew he wouldn't want to go out like that for his legacy."
Fournette is entering his third season with the Bucs. He finished the 2021 campaign with 812 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 180 carries.
