LeBron becomes 1st active NBA player with $1B net worth

LeBron James has entered the exclusive billionaire club.

The Los Angeles Lakers star's net worth is estimated to be $1 billion, according to Forbes' Chase Peterson-Withorn. James is now the first active NBA player to accumulate a billion-dollar net worth during his playing career.

Basketball icon and current Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is also a billionaire but didn't reach the milestone until 2014, more than a decade after his retirement (2003).

In addition to his hundreds of millions in career earnings, James has multiple investment ventures earning him significant capital off the court. The 37-year-old's stake in The Spring Hill Company ($300 million), Fenway Sports Group ($90 million), and Blaze Pizza ($30 million) complement his cash and real estate assets, which are estimated at over $500 million.

James is currently watching the NBA playoffs from home after his Lakers failed to make the postseason. This campaign marks the fourth time James has missed the playoffs in his illustrious 19-year career.
