Report: Barcelona focusing on signing Lewandowski this summer
Barcelona are prepared to offer Robert Lewandowski a two-year deal with an option for a third in the hopes of acquiring the decorated striker from Bayern Munich this summer, The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano reports.
Lewandowski said he has a meeting scheduled with Bayern to discuss his future at the club.
Pini Zahavi, the player's agent, reportedly met with senior executives last week but left the negotiations without making progress on an extension.
Bayern's sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, ruled out the possibility of Lewandowski leaving, saying in April he was "absolutely relaxed" about the situation.
Barcelona's interest in Lewandowski comes at a sensitive time for the club: The Blaugrana are heading for a second trophyless season in three years, and despite the turnaround Xavi has orchestrated since replacing Ronald Koeman in November, the club is struggling to stay under La Liga's restrictive salary cap.
Barcelona still managed to sign forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres for €55 million in January. They're also trying to negotiate new contracts for winger Ousmane Dembele and midfielder Gavi.
Lewandowski's spent the last eight seasons at Bayern, scoring 343 goals in 373 games while winning the Bundesliga title eight times and the Champions League in 2020.
The 33-year-old Lewandowski is out of contract in June 2023.
