Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has been named the league's Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive season, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

A formal announcement is expected later this week, Wojnarowski adds.

Jokic joins Giannis Antetokounmpo as the last two players to win back-to-back MVPs.

The Serbian big man became the first NBA player to log 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 500 assists in a single season in 2021-22. He averaged career highs with 27.1 points and 13.8 rebounds, and he recorded 7.9 assists.

Jokic led the 48-34 Nuggets to the sixth seed in the Western Conference while injured stars Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. missed the entire season and all but nine games of the campaign, respectively.

Despite Jokic's brilliance, Denver lost its first-round matchup to the Golden State Warriors in five games. The 27-year-old averaged 31 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in the matchup.

Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid finished as MVP finalists.
