Jason Williams clarifies Kobe comments: He's 'greatest Laker ever'
Jason "White Chocolate" Williams ruffled plenty of feathers after not including Kobe Bryant in his list of the top five Los Angeles Lakers players of all time. Now he's walking back that omission.
Williams debated Bryant's all-time ranking during a recent appearance on the "Players Choice" podcast, saying he was "not even sure (Kobe's) on the top five of the all-time greatest Lakers." However, Williams explained in an Instagram post Sunday that he misunderstood the question:
In the conversation you all heard, my thinking was that we were talking about ALL the greatest NBA players EVER who wore the Laker purple and gold jersey for at least ONE season. I wasn't talking about the greatest LAKER ever ... because of course that's Kobe!!! Kobe IS the Lakers!!!
The former point guard explained that he considers Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and LeBron James better players than Bryant, which is why he ranked Bryant out of the top five.
"I love this game and I respect this game!! It has nothing to do with Kobe bustin my team's ass just about every time we played them either," Williams wrote.
Bryant helped lead the Lakers to five championships during his 20-year career with the team and still ranks as the franchise's all-time leader in points, field goals, 3-pointers, free throws, steals, and games played.
