Winston out for season with torn ACL
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, head coach Sean Payton announced Monday.
An MRI reportedly also revealed damage to Winston's MCL, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Winston was carted off from Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being tackled awkwardly by linebacker Devin White. Following the game, Payton said the quarterback's injury appeared "significant."
The 27-year-old was in his first season as New Orleans' starter following the offseason retirement of franchise legend Drew Brees. Winston had thrown for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns against three interceptions.
The Saints are reportedly expected to roll with either Taysom Hill or Trevor Siemian as their starter. The NFC South club is apparently not interested in pursuing free agent Cam Newton.
Winston re-signed with New Orleans on a one-year deal after acting as the team's backup last year. He will be a free agent this coming offseason.
