Report: Teams calling Eagles about Cox ahead of trade deadline
Teams have contacted the Philadelphia Eagles to inquire about Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox's availability, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Cox has publicly criticized the Eagles' new defensive scheme and his role within it, reportedly causing teams to see if Philadelphia has any interest in trading him ahead of the Nov. 2 deadline.
However, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman reportedly views Cox as one of the team's "core veterans" and is unlikely to move the 30-year-old for anything less than a high draft pick.
Philadelphia restructured Cox's contract in September to free up cap space, further complicating any potential trade. The defensive tackle now has dead-money hits of $11.84 million in 2021, $12.83 million in 2022, and $11.18 million in 2023, with little cap savings if traded or cut before 2024, per Over The Cap.
Cox has struggled to replicate his All-Pro form this season for the Eagles, who sit at 2-5 entering Week 8. He has just 11 tackles and one sack.
