Ray Allen spoke to 'several younger players' about 'He Got Game' sequel
The wheels appear to be in motion for a possible "He Got Game" sequel.
Hall of Famer Ray Allen, who starred as Jesus Shuttlesworth in Spike Lee's 1998 basketball film, revealed during a recent appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show" that he's spoken to players about a potential sequel.
"We have talked with several younger players, including women, because there's definitely a dynamic there," Allen said. "If you think about since 1998, when the movie 'He Got Game' came out, there's been so many storylines in the last under 23, 24 years, and so there's so many different ways that we can take this.
"But I think the one caveat for us, Spike and I, we talk about every time is making sure - trying to figure out a way to get Denzel (Washington) involved. Because I think until 'Equalizer 2' he was against doing sequels. So then 'Equalizer 2' came out, so we're like, 'Oh we have a chance.' So I think that's the main thing is to get him excited and get him on board, 'cause it's just not the same if he didn't have something to do with the movie."
Allen didn't say which players he's been in contact with, but Zion Williamson's name has been floated for the lead role. Lee said last year that he and Allen tried to set up a meeting with the New Orleans Pelicans star prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
